Awhile back the missionaries and I were teaching a man about the Word of Wisdom. The missionaries explained D & C 89 to him and soon after they asked him:
Will you strive to follow and live the Word of Wisdom?
I can remember the first time I was asked this question (11 years ago). My reaction was:
Well, I don’t smoke and I do drink a bit but what is it about coffee and tea?
I was given many different answers throughout the years about coffee and tea which include:
- It’s the caffeine that’s bad for you.
- It’s the tannic acid that’s in the hot drinks.
- Or it’s any tea derived from a leaf that is not good for the body.
But I was never told the restrictions are the least of Section 89 of the D & C.
Today I found this link titled: The Word of Wisdom: the Forgotten Verses. When we are told what not to do and what to do is left out of the discussions, the concept in totality are lost by way of omission or I am totally incorrect. You be the judge.
