Latte Day Saints

If you haven’t guessed by now I love hymn 284. It is about the ‘Most Correct Hymns of all the Hymns’. I think that is a quote from a General Authority or something. In Dan Ellesworth’s post on MormonMentality.org titled Putting Kolob to rest he states we should not emphasize Kolob in any form. But rather ‘Less is more in the things we consider doctrine’.

If we believe that Kolob was the first created planet, that his planet is the nearest planet to God, we have the word Kolob in our scriptures, we have a Hymn about Kolob in our official Hymn book . . . . . I think we should celebrate it. If anyone has any better idea of where God lives, then come forward. If not, then shut up about it until you find a better explanation.

This Week’s Toon is Annegb of MormonMentality.org (And I really don’t know if she likes Hymn 284 but it’s my Blogtoon anyway.)I told her I would create a Toon of herself. But when I sent it to her she stated “I’m almost xx years old Jamie. I’m old!” To Annegb and all I will say. There is no old in The Land of Latte Day Saints.

Monday, October 19th 1835 is the day when Joseph Smith Jr invited a select few members of the Church to view the Egyptian Scroll Papyri he was translating. This papyri is the book we now call The Book of Abraham. The document was lost to the Church for 122 years (from 1844 to 1966).

It was found that this document was not the writings of the Prophet Abraham but instead the found fragments, when examined by both Mormon and non-Mormon Egyptologists, were actually funerary texts, dating to about the first century BC, that describe events in the afterlife of deceased Egyptians.

LDS Mormons now consider The Book of Abraham to be an “Inspired” work and not an actual translation. The Community of Christ (The Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) never considered it a direct translation neither an inspired text.
